Festival Fringe 2012: Farm Walks


Friday 14 September, 10.00am – 3.00pm

Walk to Sugarloaf Vineyard

In association with Brecon Beacons Organisation. Tour Guide: Clive Williams

A six mile moderate walk to Sugar Loaf Vineyard via the Castle Meadows and Llanwenarth Church. Tour the vines where seven varieties are grown, then lunch on the south facing slopes, enjoying views of the surrounding hills. There will be an opportunity to taste and buy red, white and rose wines before the stroll back to Abergavenny. Walking boots and waterproof clothing required.

Meet at the Coach Park/ Bus Station near Abergavenny Tourist Information Centre.

Trip by minibus to see two farms in the Llangovan area near Raglan. First stop, Alan and Ceri Morgan at Gadr Farm. Alan has won awards for his wildlife farming. Two mile walk with steep climb to look at woodland conservation with fantastic views.

Then it's on to neighbours Frank and Leigh Strawford at the Wernddu Vineyard. Enjoy cream tea and cakes and sample their wine, cider and perry. Tour the vineyard and visit their herd of alpacas. Purchase items from the shop, wander around or sit and relax before the return trip to Abergavenny. Wear boots or stout shoes and bring wet weather clothes. Please note that there is a 25 minute journey by minibus to the farm. Meet at the Coach Park/ Bus Station near Abergavenny Tourist Information Centre.
