Communications Intern

Abergavenny Food Festival is seeking a motivated intern to support our communications activities leading up to this year’s event. You will work directly with the comms and marketing team to implement our communications plan across the website, print materials and social media platforms.

This internship would be suitable for an individual who is interested in food, events and communications, and wants to gain experience of event production within a supportive working environment.

The internship is offered part-time (3 days per week) on a 12-week basis, allowing time for the suitable candidate to undertake paid work elsewhere if needed. This is an unpaid internship, however the festival can support with covering travel or accommodation costs where needed. Festival internships are highly sought after, and we work closely with candidates to identify areas of experience or interest that will benefit future career development.

Reporting to: Communications Manager

Job Description

  • To work closely with communications team on implementation of Festival communications activities
  • To draft relevant copy as needed for communications across website, newsletters, and social media channels
  • To offer administrative support to the festival communications team
  • To administrate and maintain the festival website – uploading relevant copy, images, SEO and managing Google Ad-words & Analytics as needed
  • To act as point of contact for obtaining speaker profiles & images for website & programme
  • To support with the implementation of festival social media activity – including use of Hootsuite to schedule planned content
  • To fulfil on copy requirements, upload pictures and graphics, liaise with our design team and implement competition requirements, along with any other communications activity as needed
  • To support with the compilation of the festival programme, obtaining copy, images & information where necessary. Offer copy-checking skills for the final print programme
  • To support with writing of press releases where needed
  • To ensure that festival targets around newsletter, social media community, ticket sales and sponsorship objectives are achieved in a timely and professional manner
  • Experience with WordPress, Hootsuite, Google Ad-words and other social media technologies beneficial but not necessary

Production Intern 

Abergavenny Food Festival is seeking a motivated intern to support our production activities leading up to this year’s event. You will work directly with the operations team to implement our event plan throughout the festival and support with essential operational duties.

This internship would be suitable for an individual who is interested in gaining experience of event production within a supportive working environment.

The internship is offered part-time (3 days per week) on a 12-week basis, allowing time for the suitable candidate to undertake paid work elsewhere if needed. This is an unpaid internship, however the festival can support with covering travel or accommodation costs where needed. Festival internships are highly sought after, and we work closely with candidates to identify areas of experience or interest that will benefit future career development.

Job description

  • To work closely with operations team on site checks and recce
  • To gather contractor information, organize contractor schedules and accreditations
  • To assist operations manager in compiling event file
  • To assist staffing manager with staffing lists and schedules
  • To work closely with the staffing manager for the staff briefing, gathering documents and information, photocopying and compiling staff briefing packs
  • To check site requirements with the operations manager
  • From a brief, to design and create signs for various sites around the festival, liaising with crew for installation
  • To collect signs from our supplier
  • To support the exhibitor director with stallholder mail out, preparing and assembling stallholder packs, coordinating mail out
  • To ensure that all exhibitors have paid their fees and taking payments over the phone
  • Supporting ticketing manager with ticket mail out
