THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT. The French call it an aperitif, in Italy it’s aperitivo – a lovely drink before a meal to sharpen the appetite and get the tastebuds dancing. The aperitivo is the forerunner of the cocktail, going back centuries to when a small glass of fortified wine, often made with ‘medicinal’ botanicals, was deemed not only to aid digestion but also to be a civilised and civilising habit in itself. Richard Tring, one of Bristol’s most renowned bartenders and co-owner of the brilliant Aperitivo Co is teaming up with seasoned boozehound and aperitif aficionado, Kate Hawkings, to show how wonderful, and wonderfully versatile, these drinks can be be. Expect generous samples of their favourites. Spittoons will be available but their use is entirely optional.
