Inspired by the miraculous little pome fruits we call apples, as well as the culture and history of cidermaking in the region, James and Susanna Forbes founded Little Pomona in 2015 on an ancient piece of land, beneath an iron age hill fort in Thornbury, north-east Herefordshire.
Using only cider apples and perry pears, they make fine, seasonal ciders in small batches from organically grown fruit of their own, as well as other local heritage orchards.
The mantra at Little Pomona is apples and time – pears too these days! Gentle, wild yeast fermentations, lengthy maturation periods in barrel and tank, and careful blending before bottling. Everything is done by hand on site.
The results are a true reflection of the fruit and the orchards. Wine-like, complex, food friendly and ultimately quite cool.
