Jay Wilde has worked on his family farm all his life, starting out milking a dairy herd of around 100 cows
before changing to organic beef in 1997. Jay never felt comfortable with raising animals for human
consumption and became a vegetarian in the late 1980s when he connected his experience of the farm
animals with the input from a group of vegetarians.
For many years, Jay was trying to find a solution that would allow him to end an occupation that went
contrary to his personal conviction and at the same time would allow him to keep his farm in agricultural
