Maurice Trumper, OBE, of Llanfair Kilgeddin, near Abergavenny, farms in partnership with his son Martyn. They breed champion saddleback pigs (and turkeys) lamb more than 1,000 ewes each year. The pigs live outside almost all year, grow slowly, and they sell the resulting pork direct from the farm, as well as weaners – pigs of about 10 weeks old that have been weaned from their mothers – for people to grow on themselves.
His contributions to the ifarming ndustry extend over more than 50 years, during which time he has held a succession of offices through the National Farmers Union. He has been chairman of the NFU’s Welsh Livestock Committee, vice-chairman of the Livestock Marketing Committee for England and Wales and chairman of the NFU Welsh Council received the John Gittins Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to the Welsh sheep industry.
