Barry Smith is director of the Institute of Philosophy at the University of London, and founding director of its Centre for the Study of the Senses, which pioneers collaborative links between philosophers, psychologists and neuroscientists. His research is on the multisensory perception of flavour, taste and smell. He has published in Nature, Food Quality and Preference, Flavour and Chemical Senses, as well as editing Questions of Taste: the philosophy of wine, Oxford University Press.) Barry collaborates with artists, chefs and perfumers and consults for the food and drinks industry. He is a regular broadcaster appearing on BBC Radio 4’s The Kitchen Cabinet as well as writing and presenting two radio series, The Uncommon Senses, and The Mysteries of the Brain. He has appeared on BBC’s Two’s Inside the Factory, BBC One’s Masterchef and Channel 4’s Food Unwrapped . He writes for The World of Fine Wine and is the wine columnist for Prospect Magazine.
