Born in 1961, Robb has stayed local to the Abergavenny area, starting his working life as an agricultural contractor, later leaving farming to work for Royal Mail in the Mid 1980’s where he worked until taking early retirement in 2014.
White Castle Vineyard was planted by Robb & Nicola Merchant in 2009. Having purchased a 12 acre small holding in 1993 Robb kept a few sheep as a hobby. A further purchase of 5 acres in 2008 lead to the planting of 5000 vines in 2009, with 6 varieties mainly of Germanic origin.
Robb took the role of Chairman of the Welsh Vineyard Association in April 2016 which involves sitting as the regional representative on the National Vineyard Council. He became a mentor for Farming Connect in 2017 and has been awarded a Farming Connect Management Exchange opportunity, choosing to travel to the Loire region in France.
Robb also coordinates viticultural courses at White Castle vineyard.
