Fresh from their award-winning RHS Chelsea Balcony Garden – Making Life Better with Bees – Bees for Development is bringing the buzz to Monmouthshire. Celebrating pollinators, people, and community, the Balcony Garden inspired thousands and highlighted the vital role of nature’s small heroes. On the Local and Vocal stage, the charity will connect UK pollinator research with its work globally through the Pollinate Change programme. From wildflower meadows in Wales to vital habitats in Amhara, Bees for Development works with communities to protect biodiversity and ensure bees can thrive – showcasing the power of community-led projects.
Speakers:
Chris Keywood
Born in South Africa, Chris was privileged to grow up surrounded by some of the richest natural landscapes on earth, instilling a love of nature. As a beekeeper, he spent the last 10 years working in Southern and Eastern Africa using beekeeping as a means of development. In his role as Project Manager with Bees for Development he helps beekeepers gain higher, fairer incomes from their honey in Africa.
Ciaran Clark
Ciaran developed a specific interest in both macrophotography and the diversity of different bee species while studying evolutionary biology at Bristol University. His work at Bees for Development started in south Wales with a project looking at the often-overlooked species of ‘solitary bees’ but has since moved to work in sub-Saharan Africa.
