Patrick and Becky Holden farm 300 acres in West Wales, now the longest established organic dairy farm in the principality where they produce Hafod, a raw milk cheddar, from the milk of their 80 Ayrshire cows.
Patrick is the founder and chief executive of the Sustainable Food Trust, an organisation working internationally to accelerate the transition to more sustainable food systems. Prior to this he was the founding chairman of British Organic Farmers in 1982 before joining the Soil Association where he was Director and worked for nearly 20 years until 2010.
During Patrick’s time at the Soil Association, the organisation led the development of organic standards and the market for organic foods. In 2005, Patrick was awarded a CBE for services to organic farming, he is Patron of the UK Biodynamic Farming Association and was elected an Ashoka Fellow in 2016. Patrick’s advocacy for a major global transition to more sustainable food systems entails international travel and regular broadcasts and talks at public events.
