Tom’s new book lifts the curtain on royal kitchens past and present. ‘As a food history geek,’ he explains ‘I cannot tell you how exciting it has been to read original recipes in the royal archive in Windsor, and disappear into the lives and reigns (and eating habits) of sovereigns from Queen Victoria onwards.’ The published recipes however, he assures us, are not ‘roast cygnets and ortolans’ but ‘proper recipes’ that he’s loved to cook.

Although Tom is godson to the monarch and his mother, Camilla, is Queen, he can expect no deference from Matt. Tom and Matt go back a long way, to their co-hosting days on UKTV’s Market Kitchen. Tom Parker Bowles is the restaurant critic for The Mail on Sunday and a contributing editor for Esquire, Country Life and Conde Nast Traveller plus a regular judge on the BBC’s Masterchef. Matt Tebbutt presents Saturday Kitchen on BBC 1 and his new book Pub Food: 100 Favourites, Old and New is just out.
